Tips To Determine the Gallons Per Flush Volume

  • Pre 1994
    • Toilets that date prior to 1994 fall in two main flush volumes: 5-7 gallons per flush (gpf) and 3.5 gallons per flush (gpf)
  • 1994- Present (1994 – 2006) Toilets:
    • Toilets that are dated 1994 to present time fall into two main flush volumes, 1.6 gallons per flush (gpf) and 1.28 gallons per flush (gpf)
  • 2005 – Present (High Efficiency Toilets)
    • Toilets that are dated 2005 to present time fall into two main flush volumes, 1.28 gallons per flush (gpf) and .080 gallons per flush .

The easiest way to determine a toilet gallon per flush volume is to look for a stamp on the toilet bowl where it connects to the tank directly behind the seat. If not there take the tank lid off and look for a rating or manufacture’s date stamped inside the lid tank.
